EL COLEGIO MARKHAM
Markham College is a fully bilingual and bicultural school and has been co-educational since 1992. We are the first Latin American member of the Round Square organisation whose ideals are international understanding, democracy, environmental awareness, adventure, leadership and service and are also members of Youth Leaders International that stresses leadership and civic responsibility intertwined with the challenges of celebrating the diversity and commonality of humankind.
We currently have around 1800 students from 23 countries on roll. Our academic curriculum closely follows the National Curriculum from Great Britain with the addition of a full range of cultural and sporting activities, annual outdoor education challenges, committed social service projects and a well-developed pastoral care programme.
Our international examination results place us among the very best schools in Latin America. All of our students sit at least ten IGCSE courses and, on average, pass over nine of them. Every student follows courses in double or triple science, mathematics at extended level, literature in both English and Spanish and, for an increasingly large number, two first languages. Recently two students were awarded certificates from Cambridge International Examinations for having achieved the highest marks in the world in their Food & Nutrition and Spanish Literature examinations.
Markham is also, arguably, the most successful International Baccalaureate Diploma school in Lima. We certainly have the greatest number of successful entries. Since 2000, we have entered 381 students for the full Diploma and 378 of them have passed. This compares with an international pass rate of 75-80% for Diploma candidates.
These academic results translate into impressive university entrance figures both locally and abroad. For the last four years, every Markham student has been offered a place at university and we currently have ex-students following degrees at Yale, Princeton, Cambridge, Penn, McGill, LSE, Columbia, Imperial College, MIT and many other top universities around the world.
